ok... I'm game to figure this out now lol

tell me more specifically.. what kind of setup are you intending to end up with.

    My assumption:

You want to broadcast from your computer ( edcast ) into the shoutcast server... then have that stream heard on a parcel within SL.. am I in the ballpark?

hmm... I cannot connect my broadcaster to the server either.. admittedly I had not tried earlier until now.

    @Konstantin .. which way are u connecting?

I'm gonna have to dig into that.. maybe my original instructions were wrong

    Yup... This.

Actually, winamp/edcast is running on a server, but when i do a live show it will be from my machine. I can do the swapover on my server really easy by disconnecting the source, and attaching the new source (me), then swapping back to winamp when im done.

The shoutcast system on the server is 100% operational. It ran 24x7 for nearly a year when i hosted the station exclusively on the server and no other provider.

yea understood.. but u succeeding in getting it working with the instafree server adds to the testing.

it's almost 1am for me.. but here's an update.

I've been trying everything I can think of... I've tried 4 different programs to connect to the instafree server and had issues.. As a consequence.. I tried manually entering the information using the protocol in my server and the server kept reporting authentication errors.
    Code:
    HTTP/1.0 401 Authentication Required
    Server: Icecast 2.4.2
    Date: Thu, 02 Mar 2017 04:39:39 GMT
    Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
    WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="Icecast2 Server"
    Cache-Control: no-cache
    Expires: Mon, 26 Jul 1997 05:00:00 GMT
    Pragma: no-cache

    You need to authenticate
    Connection closed by foreign host.
Now.. I'd like to verify with @Konstantin exactly how he's connected. It is working for him with your desired setup... tonight I will test the Shoutcast protocol see if that's working better... could be just me misreading the instruction manual too. o_O

    will keep updated

I am using the same software as @Konstantin (butt) and have not had any issues connecting at all.

You have to create a DJ. Then under Quick Links in the control panel, use that connection info.

    ok.. here goes [ @Bryan @MGCJerry @Konstantin ] <-- tagged u all to get your attention

    *update*

Account Type: IceCast 2.4.2 ( I believe this is what we all started with )

    Connecting using: SHOUTcast (v1)

You will need [ General >> Quicklinks ]:
    • Protocol: SHOUTcast (v1)
      Server hostname: 23.92.66.150
Server port: 8013 <-- replace with your stated port data
      Bit rate: 320
      Login: < blank > ( not used/required )
      Mount: < blank > ( not used/required )
      Password: jsmith:secret ( DJ Account from [ Configuration >> DJ ] )
      • Password has a specific format that "may" need to adhere to, depending on your software.
The username and password of one of your DJ accounts, separated by a colon
        Password Format Ex.: djuser:djpass
    Tested with:
    • BUTT ( not a fan lol )
    • VideoLAN ( setup is somewhat advanced )
    • MIXX ( my personal choice )
    Not Tested:
    • WinAmp ( develpment stalled since AOL sold )

    Caveats:
    • Requires DJ Accounts
    • Must have AutoDJ running
    • Does not use the /mountpoint concept
      • All live broadcasts will feed wherever mount points AutoDJ feeds it seems
    • Good to use SHOUTcast(v1) if you typically run AutoDJ.
      • Will pause AutoDJ and prioritize incoming DJ/Source
      • AutoDJ auto resumes when Live DJ disconnects
      • Broadcast Software will fail to connect if AutoDJ is NOT running ( seems to depend on AutoDJ )

    Connecting using: IceCast

You will need [ General >> Quicklinks ]:
    • For the /stream mount point:
      • Protocol: IceCast
        Server hostname: 23.92.66.150
Server port: 8012 <-- replace with your stated port data
Mount point: /live ( change as necessary. /stream works in place of /live for same mountpoint )
        Format: MP3
        Bit rate: 128 kbps

        Login: source
        Password: [ Configuration >> Settings >> Source Password: ]
    Tested with:
    Not Tested:
    • VideoLAN ( ran out of hair to pull )
    • WinAmp ( develpment stalled since AOL sold )

    Caveats:
    • Does NOT use DJ Accounts
    • Can use IceCast Protocol if you run AutoDJ.
      • Will pause AutoDJ and prioritize incoming DJ/Source
      • AutoDJ auto resumes when Live DJ disconnects

Dropped the mic is what you did! :D :D :D

    EXCELLENT tutorial!!

That's pretty much exactly how I did it with BUTT. Did some significant testing and it worked every time. Have not tried the others yet.

    ty tyvm..

yea I was confusing myself after a bit.. trying to use Icecast protocol to connect through shoutcast and vice versa... then add to that the fact that AutoDJ simply must be running for ShoutCast v1 to authenticate AND AutoDJ has a habit of starting itself after x amount of time lol... I just got brain fried and couldn't figure out why and how nothing worked. BUTT was also refusing to connect aswell.

Maybe it's me, probably how long it's been since I've used shoutcast/icecast ( pre shoutcast v2 )... but I don't feel that Centova does that great a job in explaining how to connect.. details are lacking a bit and I found myself digging into the protocols of each to really debug, myself.

idk.. let's see what others think... maybe I'm still burned.

ok.. let's try ironing this wrinkle now... I'm sure you know most of these steps, but I'm putting them on here that way in case this works and someone else in the future comes rummaging through the posts.

    try this:
    • in WinAmp preferences >> [ Plugins >> DSP Effect ] select edcast DSP vX
    in the New Window "edcast":
    • click [ Add Encoder ]
    • right-click the new encoder and select [ Configure ]
    • select [ Basic Settings ]
      • Bitrate: 320 ( or less )
      • Samplerate: 44100 ( if bitrate is > 96.... 22050 if less )
      • Channels: 2 ( if bit rate > 48, 1 if less than 48 )
      • Encoder Type: Icecast2
      • Server IP: 23.92.66.150 <-- verify that @ [ General >> Quicklinks ]
      • Server Port: 8012 <-- replace that with correct port @ [ General >> Quicklinks ]
      • Encoder Password: **** <-- find it @ [ Configuration >> Settings >> Source Password: ]
      • Mountpoint: /live <-- ( can try /stream also )
      • Reconnect Seconds: 10
    • select [ YP Settings ]
      • leave [ Public Server ] off ( you will need the empty slots for each avatar on parcel )
      • fill in those blanks if you want ( don't think they're useful for SL parcels )
      • clik [ OK ] button
    • back on "edcast" window
      • Check ON [ AutoConnect ]
      • Select/Highlight the created 'Encoder' in the list
      • Click [ Connect ] button
additionally.. don't forget to update the Parcel's media URL to reflect the InstaFree Shoutcast server.

Are you guys still using this. I've started making some recordings using the Sony recorder, and I'll start to ftp them ovwer in a few days. It's probably best for me to put them on a juke box, and add some links to Kuffy Radio,

Finally managed to read all this. The other station I had used to get around 30 listeners average and sometimes 100+ listeners and can't remember how much bandwidth it used up - should imagine alot. It was using centovacast. I was streaming at 64k, 128 and 192 for the same stream with 3 channels - so 9 streams all together. Never got a warning for overusing bandwidth or resources from 123-reg on their basic vps package
