It's free, as in open source and free to host yourself. You can pay and they will host it on their servers for you. If you host it yourself, it's free.

To pay (or get a free trial) there's this:
    https://www.mumble.com/free-mumble-server.php

Source: I recalled a buddy saying, in passing, that he had a Mumble server - should I need it. I just sent 'em a PM and they inform me that they paid zero dollars. The software is free of cost so hosting it yourself will not require you pay any additional fees.

Thanks, I was looking on the wrong Wiki, and I've just found a static Linux download. I assume that's the one I want.

He does say that paying gets some nice GUI stuff that doesn't come with the free version and adds that it's easy enough to manage for anyone even remotely familiar with CLI.

With 3.2.1 currently out of beta, the TS servers will be shutting down in the next day or so.

I know I'm a bit late to this, but people like me who run a copy of Teamspeak server with the free license, am I required to update to a new copy of the server because Teamspeak chose to break it because they need more money?

Say can't members run copies of the servers on NAT VPS containers anyway? People do that quite often to save money on hosting, since it's the IPv4 that cost a lot, not the other resources. Teamspeak would probably run even if 32MB of memory is allotted to the container, provided that it has a bit of swap space and if people have domain names, they can configure a SRV record at the DNS so there's no port to specify.

Well the older servers won’t work with new clients. So. You basically have to, yes

As @Konstantin said, yes, you need to upgrade your server. There is still a free 1 Virtual Machine 32 Slot Server available (for now). So it's still free. You just need to upgrade.

I personally have not tried running TS on a NAT container (though that will be a project for me in the next day or two). I know you can redirect some of the ports, but I don't know if you can redirect all, like the file transfer port, etc., etc.

These are more the ones that I'm worried about:

    Code:
Domain Protocol Local Port (Server) Remote Port Notes
    accounting.teamspeak.com TCP 1024-65535 (random by OS) 2008 TeamSpeak 3 Server versions 3.0.x
    accounting2.teamspeak.com TCP 1024-65535 (random by OS) 443 TeamSpeak 3 Server versions 3.1.x
    ts3services.teamspeak.com TCP 1024-65535 (random by OS) 443 TeamSpeak 3 Server versions 3.1.x
weblist.teamspeak.com UDP 2011-2110 (first available) 2010 all server versions
I don't know that the free version even needs to contact their accounting servers.

Seeing as the free server can supposedly be used online or offline, I'm going to guess that a NAT VPS would work for this. The accounting server should technically never need to be contacted. Spooling one up right now.

Well...looks like it's working great! I'm running this on CentOS7 with 32 mb of RAM (LOL!!!)

Of course, it attempts to make outgoing connections to the accounting server, but when it can't reach it, it just defaults to the free license, which is perfectly fine. If you run a paid version of TS, NAT shouldn't work, as it won't be able to validate your license.

But for free, looks like it's working great!!

I’ve had situations where free servers will shut down after 24 hours if it can’t get to a accounting server.

Should be able to redirect everything if you use TS3.Ini and start it from there.

They claim the free version can be used offline, which is why I wonder if it does need to reach the accounting server anymore. The paid ones obviously do. I should have kept mine running to see. Deleted it ast night after the test worked.

I got a old copy of Teamspeak server running on my NAT container as I haven't found time to update the server (which means I haven't updated my client either). Checked netstat and, aside from my ssh connection, the only other connection the container is making is a UDP connection to hardy.teamspeak.4players.de:2010, nothing else.

I have the server up on the NAT container by changing the voice and file transfer port via query and changing query port with a parameter to change it to ports that I'm allotted.
