That just makes no sense how month to month would ever work out cheaper than a yearly plan. Usually companies want to get you in for the year by giving for cheaper than for by month lol

You would think. I'm basically at $30/mo. The yearly worked out to like $42/mo. Made no sense at all.

Yes, those are the prices they now agreed to. I'm hoping to get something cheaper than that, but only time will tell.

Honestly, the new pricing doesn't hurt nearly as much as the $0.20/account would have, but as was mentioned, they can pretty much change the price at will.

I am going to have paid clients who want to stay with cPanel, and I don't want to lose them. ;) So for the foreseeable future, I am likely going to need to run a cPanel server or two. I would LOVE to leave cPanel completely after this shitstorm, but I don't think I can, sadly.

If prices stay as published by @Konstantin or I can get lower, I believe my plan will be to allow everyone currently on a cPanel plan to stay if they want to (with no more being added), but I will need to temporarily shut down shared/reseller sign-ups until I can get things up and running on a DA server in the next couple months. As I mentioned, there are still a lot of things I need to work out, especially a DNS cluster. An option is to force everyone to use Cloudflare (has the bonus side effect of cutting down on DDoS attacks/protection), but I hate Cloudflare almost as much as I hate cPanel. :p :p :p

As well, I will need to heavily crack down on inactive accounts, and accounts with "Hello World," default WordPress installations, etc. There are quite a few.

So, there's an update on the plan for now, until cPanel does some other crazy-ass maneuver in a day or two.

I hope people are fooling around with the DA test account, and if anybody needs the root password to that test VPS to do whatever the heck you want to DA, just shoot me a PM and I'll send it your way. I didn't want to post the root password to a nice VPS out in the wild, since people do stupid things. ha ha! As long as you don't change the root password or break things too badly, I'll be a happy man. :D

I've got quite a few domains that I've disposed of, and I need to lose those. I don't really need a reseller account, it was just a convenient way to structure my domain holding. Probably the easiest way for me to handle that account would be to have a new DA account, and just move the domains that I want to keep over to there. The only advantage I can see for my having a reseller account is to contain a site that is being hit by spammers. This seems to happen with a forum, or a blog that allows comments.

Just let me know what you want tme to do to help keep your wonderful service alive. I still own HostingProducts.com - do you want to use that to promote WSWD? Perhaps we could run it as a Q&A site. I tested question2answer in this sub-directory for an example. - http://jetcash.com/ask-a-legendary/index.php/questions. I have added a few links to WSWD to various sites, but I don't seem to be doing very well in finding new clients.

I think I'll move my friend's sites under my same account to take away the need for the reseller, as there's not really much need when Ro has moved away from here, and Josh and Martin, I am the one doing everything for them lol.

@Bryan you can switch my account over to a shared account now instead of a reseller if my one account under the reseller counts as an additional account to the reseller itself to CPanel. Got everything under my one account now.

Just curious how this is expected to hit the $12 a year plan?
I'd gladly pay more but would love an idea how much much if you have any idea what so ever lol.
$12 a year has been one of the most incredible deals I'v ever had and I appreciate its existence.

If cPanel doesn’t change their mind, we will most likely move to DirectAdmin. The new model of charging per account is ludacris, especially for reseller accounts.

It's possible that it will not increase at all. On $12/year, we make $0.94/mo. on those accounts. So even if cPanel now charges $0.20/mo. for each account (which is worse case), we're still making $0.74/mo.

The goal of the paid upgrades has never been to make a profit. The money is used to purchase extras, i.e. Softaculous, Litespeed, Cloudlinux, etc. I can't dump cPanel completely, so there will at least be a couple cPanel servers left.

But as far as free hosting is concerned, $0.20/account is a deal breaker. 1000 accounts will cost an extra $200/mo. just in cPanel costs, plus the license fee increase. It's significant. Any account fee is going to result in a complete move of the free hosting to DirectAdmin.

Nope, nothing definitive. But by the looks of it, if they haven't gone back after all this time, they aren't going to.

Ouch, this really sucks. cPanel hasn't listened either nor seems to be slowing down on the "per-user" pricing. A lot of smaller hosts will be affected hugely (and judging by their Twitter pages a lot are in discussions as to what to do.) I've worked with DirectAdmin before and like it a lot, so if it comes to the point where it has to be moved I am completely fine with it.

Yep, not good at all, and as you say, there has so far been no movement from cPanel. Like I mentioned, I'm okay with a price increase. I have been paying the same price for at least 10 years. So an increase from $30/mo. to $45/mo is not a big deal. It's the per-user pricing that kills things.

They are banking on the huge hosts being too big to move to another platform, and they are probably right. It would cost more, at least up front, for these huge hosts to do a migration, explain to all the users, the downtime, etc., etc., than it would to just pay the additional money. And cPanel knows that.

I've got two accounts, would it help to merge those into one? Or maybe we could do a deal to turn the standard account into a paid one. Does a reseller account cost more than a basic hosting plan?

I thought about that, but maybe others atr in the sane situation. If a few of us optimise our accounts, then that could make a difference.
