    Hi Bryan,

I kinda skimmed a little bit, will the premium VPS I have with InstaFree be effected by this? I was just about to renew it, so I really hope not! But if it is, then so be it. Thanks and I hope everybody is still doing good in the IF community!

Are you running cPanel on your VPS?

If you're not running cPanel, then no. No effect at all. The VPS servers are happy and unaffected. There are a small handful of people running cPanel on the premium VPS, but I don't recall you being one of them.

If we are going to switch to Direct Admin. Would it be possible to set up a new account using that, and migrating gradually over the next couple of months? Perhaps we could contribute a bit towards the cost if that would make things easier.

The plan will never be an abrupt switch, if a switch is indeed going to happen.

What happens with cPanel depends on how much they are willing to deal. If they are willing to waive the fees for additional accounts, I'm willing to pay slightly more for the license.

The only sort of per account licensing that'd be acceptable I'd say is if it was say $0.02 or so so then 1000 additional accounts would be $20 /m. That is reasonable and I'm sure most people would be fine with it, as if they're getting that many users, chances are they get enough to pay that easily, unless it's all just free accounts, but far different than $200 lol

I've got a paid VPS on Accorders, and a couple of us had a go at the setup, and I think we messed it up.
Would it be a good move to reset that, and to move some of the simple template sites onto that. That could make things easier in the future.

Makes quite a lot of sense I'd say the change DirectAdmin has made to their lifetime license, now that hosts are turning to them rather than what used to be the case that hosts weren't interested even if it was free. Now that they will be the go to panel, makes sense for them to still get something from clients each year in return for support and updates so they can continue to provide exactly that.

And even without the lifetime license, partners get VPS licenses for $5 and dedicated licenses for $14. I've offered those to my VPS and Dedicated clients for years. So cheap.

As someone with a reseller account, is there a way to make a backup up everything or do we have to do it for each account?

    Hello,

Late last week, we announced a new pricing structure for cPanel. This change was the result of several months of conversations and modeling to ensure we understood as many use cases for cPanel & WHM hosting as possible. In the days following our announcement, we have heard from many of our Customers, both online and on the phone, and the feedback has been clear. Our analysis of use cases was incomplete, and we underestimated the amount of time that some of our Customers require to implement the yearly license changes. This was a miss on our part, and we are sorry for any concern we have caused as a result.

Your feedback has been taken to heart, and we are making adjustments. Outlined below are changes that we feel are positives for our direct Customers:

    Reinstating cPanel Solo Licenses
By the end of this week we will reinstate cPanel Solo licenses in the cPanel Store. They will be available at $15/month on Cloud only. Additionally, we will no longer convert existing cPanel Solo licenses to the Admin package.

    Extending Yearly Licenses

We are automatically extending yearly licenses to help with the transition to the new licensing model. For licenses expiring between June 27th and July 20th, 2019, we will give additional time to select a new option in the ‘Managed Licenses” area in the cPanel Store. Please complete your selection no later than July 21, 2019.

    Simplified Partner Application Process

The cPanel Store is in the process of being remodeled. We want to simplify the process of becoming a Partner. The cPanel Store release scheduled for August 2019 will provide a dramatic improvement on the process to become a Partner. Keep an eye out for this important change. Customers with a large number of accounts that meet Partner requirements will see a significant discount on our new pricing with Bulk accounts starting a 0.10 USD per account.

For all our cPanel Store customers who reached out to us to let us know their concerns with changes; thank you for providing your direct and constructive feedback.

The cPanel Store Licensing Guide (https://go.cpanel.net/store-license-guide), will be updated to reflect these changes over the next week. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to our customer support team: cs@cpanel.net

    Sincerely,

    J. Nick Koston

That was sent an hour or so ago. They still refuse to address the per account pricing. In fact, they didn't really address anything, aside from the VPS license with a single account staying at $15.

    Useless.

How tone deaf are they -_-

Time to without a doubt leave cPanel behind then. Absolutely insane that they just focused on reinstating the solo license rather than anything else. Yes being made to go to the 5 user admin license at $20 /m instead of $15 /m for the solo is a big difference, but for a solo user, you're very likely to simply go elsewhere, and if that elsewhere doesn't have great security, use htpasswd to protect the panel login or use NAT so only yourself can access it etc.

But for hosting providers, that just isn't an option of course.

But again, time to vote with your wallet and trust. cPanel has just blown it all.

Yes, they listened so well that they kept going with their plan. $5 increase... almost anyone can swallow that unless your budget is really really tight. By extending the licenses they are basically saying "Your customers that are currently on a yearly hosting subscription can be hit with new pricing.

"Simplified Partner Application Process" LOL. They actually think @Bryan and their other customers want to apply to be "partners" after this? Jeez how stupid are they...

I think it is time to move away from cPanel. There is no guarantee that they won't mess around again in the future.

Can you run cPanel and Direct Admin on the same server. If you can, then would it be possible to set up a new Direct Admin account, and just move the domains into that? Once that has been done, and things are resolving correctly, then the old account could be deleted. Would that require a different set of name servers?

Can't be done unfortunately. The multiple panels would interfere with each other.

The nameservers issue is something I'm still trying to work out. I'm not really sure how DA handles a nameserver cluster. I've seen how to handle clustered servers, but it doesn't really match up with nameservers.

Hope you had the yearly plan so you get the extended time to do everything without having a punch in your face in September
