Sounds good! The $12 one is just the upgrade option on this site, if you go to the Account Upgrades.

And just to update everyone, version 3.2.0 of the client software (currently in beta) is when the client will no longer connect to our versions of the server, and since we can't update the server version because the ATHPs no longer exist well......yeah, you get the picture. This is going to happen sooner than I thought. Everyone should probably count on being moved by the end of the month, unfortunately. :(

Can I pay by credit card through the PayPal guest link.

How does the VPS work? Do I still use xohc.com for my DNS ( that's the one on my WSWD VPS.
I'll have to decide on a domain name for the site as well. Is the InstaFree VPS similar to the WSWD VPS?

I'll just get you set up over there, since you're already in the system. It's basically exactly the same only with a different VPS control panel (Virtualizor vs. SolusVM).

Just PM me the domain and hostname (of course that can always be changed later), and I'll get you all set up. :)

Well I think this is well and true where Discord takes over for a big percentage of people that still were using TS then. TS is being beyond greedy here, and whilst I see many people still love TS for the same reasons they love their own website hosting, that it's all in their own control.. Now requiring to buy a costly TS license and a VPS rather than just buying a fairly priced TS hosting package for their needs with a TS license in the cost because of the host being able to pay the overhead.... It's definitely hard to see people requiring 32+ slots staying with TS now.

This is exactly right! That about sums it up in a nutshell. I honestly believe they are going to keep a small handful of hosts, particularly the huge ones as far as TS is concerned, but it isn't going to be many. And like I said, no new ones are being added at all. The ATHP program is completely shut down.

    Crazy...

I want to use Teamspeak so that I can help non-English speakers to improve their posting in a forum. I doubt if there will be more than 4 or 5 online at a time, and the privacy will be useful.

Bryan's VPS looks ideal for the purpose. His servers are really fast, so I'm hoping that there won't be any lag to waste the helper's time.

The big question is. Will discord release a "lite" version that can be self-hosted? That would completely COMPLETELY destroy TeamSpeak :p :p. Only the true fanboys will be left.

If they were smart, yes they would. But I honestly don't think they will.

I should look into Discord, I'm honestly not 100% sure what it's uses are. I know that I've seen it used at local colleges for specific projects and classes and obviously it appears to be used for gaming. It seems pretty flexible.

One way I use Discord a lot outside of just using it for my channel viewer base community and friends, I use it a lot to interact with Ro regarding all things on his website. The biggest thing I like about using Discord for code related talk or whatever, you can delete and edit messages, so you aren't going to just confuse something from accidentally sending wrong things like with messaging app etc.

Discord can be as public or as private, or as much of both as you wish. You don't need to join servers to use it to add people you know the names of to use simply as instant messaging. Those things I love about it. As well that someone doesn't even need an app just to use it.

Heck they don't even need to create an account and can be anon if they want, though that obviously is temp rather than a long time use as anyone else can take the username until it's assigned to an account. (Though it won't obviously appear literally as the same user, just that anon user from my understanding will be dead).

And obviously depending on chosen server settings, some obviously require an account with a verified email before they can use the server. I just require someone before they can access and use my server, to read the rules and then self assign using my bot the approved role as an I agree that if I break these rules, I am booted out of existance.

Perhaps switching it up to a Mumble server may be a solution for you. It has always been the better product of the 2.

    Main Page: https://wiki.mumble.info/wiki/Main_Page
    Git Repo: https://github.com/mumble-voip/
    License: https://github.com/mumble-voip/mumble/blob/master/LICENSE

Teamspeak's good, but have always had the problem with licensing ( particularly their ever changing of the licenses ) as an obstacle. Discord's a good service.. but it is just that, a "free service" with a higher than necessary overhead, admittedly I use it reluctantly.

You can still 'self-host' a Teamspeak3 server on your 'maybe VPS' and have a 32-slot virtual server ( used to be 100-slot self host/clan license ).

But those licensing costs are just crazy @ $0.86/slot for the 64+, and you still have to self host.

I think that they're ultimately moving towards a SaaS model ( like Discord ) which would grant them more 'casual users' but leave the power users in the dust.

Just changed the IF server over to the free version. Also downloaded the beta client, and have confirmed that it will not connect to the old servers.

Thanks to you guys for suggesting Mumble, and I wondered if it would be a better choice for me than Teamspeak. I looked at the wiki here - https://wiki.mumble.info/wiki/Features and it states that it is open source and free. There are some useful addons as well.

However it has been suggested that it is not free, but there is a monthly licence fee. Has anyone used, or have experience of, the free server package?
